Casa Tíbet México
Casa Tíbet México was inaugurated by His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama on 2 July 1989, during his first visit to Latin America. It was the first centre in Latin America dedicated to Tibetan culture and the study of Tibetan Buddhism, in a 19th-century building in Colonia Roma donated by Mauricio Karam and his family. Its founder and president, Lama Marco Antonio (Tony) Karam, organised the visits of the Dalai Lama to Mexico in 1989, 2004, 2011 and 2013. Tibet support groups such as Tibet MX and Voces de Tibet hold the 10 March commemoration in Mexico City. In November 2022 deputies formed a parliamentary group of Friends of Tibet in the Mexican Congress, and in October 2023 the Mexican Parliament hosted Sikyong Penpa Tsering on his first official visit. Mexico is served by the Office of Tibet for Latin America in Brazil.
Casa Tíbet México
Casa Tíbet México calls itself the first official cultural representation of the Tibetan people in Latin America. It is an educational, non-sectarian cultural institution with open meditation sessions, courses on Tibetan Buddhism and culture in Spanish, distance learning, a Dharma workshop for children and a library named after Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche, at Orizaba 93, Roma Norte, Mexico City.
