Asia is where the Tibetan diaspora began. Beyond India and Nepal — which each have their own page on this site — Tibetan communities, monasteries and dharma centres are spread right across the continent, from Bhutan and Mongolia to Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong and Southeast Asia. Some trace their roots to centuries-old Himalayan Buddhist ties; others formed more recently around students, workers and practitioners drawn to Tibetan Buddhism.
Because these communities are smaller and more scattered, their events are easy to miss. This page gathers them in one place: teachings by visiting lamas, Losar celebrations, 10 March commemorations, film screenings, concerts and community gatherings anywhere in Asia that does not yet have its own country page on tibetanevents.com.
Mongolia’s long connection to the Gelug lineage, Bhutan’s living Himalayan Buddhist culture and Taiwan’s network of Tibetan Buddhist centres each sustain active calendars of teachings, pujas and festivals. In Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong and Singapore, smaller Tibetan communities and dharma centres host teachings, retreats and Losar gatherings, often organised around a single centre or a handful of families.
As these communities grow and more of their events are submitted, individual countries will move onto pages of their own — and this page will go on covering the rest.
