The Tibetan Community in Finland

Finland’s Tibetan community is small but increasingly visible, centred on the Helsinki capital region and on the growing Tibetan Buddhist community in southern Finland. Finnish interest in Tibet has long been supported by the Finnish Tibetan Cultural Association and the Songtsen Vajrayana community, which have helped host visits by His Holiness the Dalai Lama and built lasting cultural ties.

The community comes together for Losar, His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s birthday and the 10 March commemoration of the Tibetan National Uprising, as well as for Buddhist teachings and cultural events. With the recognition of Danakosha Ling as Finland’s first Tibetan Buddhist monastery and initiatives such as the Tibet Art Center in Loimaa, Finland has become a meaningful new home for Tibetan religion and culture in the Nordic region.

Featured Monastery

Danakosha Ling in Jokioinen is the spiritual heart of Tibetan Buddhism in Finland and, since its recognition as a Tibetan Buddhist monastery in 2023, the first of its kind in the country. Led by Tulku Dakpa Rinpoche — the first Tibetan Buddhist to hold Finnish citizenship — it has grown into one of the largest Tibetan Buddhist communities in the Nordic region, and the addition of a stupa in 2025 has made it an important place of pilgrimage and practice. Danakosha Ling offers meditation, teachings, retreats and pujas, welcoming Finnish and international practitioners alike.
